Flying High

"Keep focussing on the mountain in front and jump as I count to 3 " he said in his soft soothing voice. Easier said than done of course. I was standing on the ledge at New Zealand's skyline attraction in picturesque Queenstown. With butterflies doing funny things in my stomach, the beautiful view didn't help at all. What did help was that the bungee instructor was a very good looking young kiwi who was expertly guiding yet another novice through her life changing moment. After what seemed like eternity he counted 1,2,3 and my life changed for ever! Bungee jumping in New Zealand is definitely one of my unforgettable memories and the thrill of doing it successfully will always be something I cherish. Bungee jumping is not just unforgettable but definitely a life changing experience. Sometimes hanging upside down on a rope can clear your head ! And definitely one of the best places to try that would be New Zealand. With the stunning backdrop.

Equally exciting but a little less adventurous than hanging upside down is hanging between trees! Walking on a rope bridge

between the tall trees in the rainforests of Malaysia is something you just can't miss! Even more exciting than screaming your lungs out on a roller coaster ride in Genting highlands; is hanging on to your sunglasses, camera, wallet and to dear life as you enjoy the canopy walk. Balancing on the canopy as you breathe the fresh pure air and listen to birds in nature's lap definitely gives you a different high that no theme park can match!

But for those aiming for the ultimate high in adventure, few activities beat skydiving. And for those of us who cannot spend weeks to become certified skydivers, a better option would be jumping with an expert. You are strapped on to the instructor like a little kangaroo and you can fly! Actually you don't fly but you drop, however from 15000 ft you really can't tell the difference. As Julie my instructor opened the door of the aircraft she nudged me to jump with her and took off. Luckily, unlike bungee jumping, you don't have to make the decision to jump when you select a tandem sky dive. Happy
to let Julie do all the thinking I jumped with her and struggled against the wind. The force of the wind felt like it was blowing off my face ! It was a real struggle to smile at the photographer who was skydiving with us. He approached me for a handshake in the sky, a simple task that was made difficult with the wind blowing us away! Thanking Julie for the ride of my life I came down to look at my photographs and video. It was fabulous to relive the experience on video again and again.

Recently, while watching Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara I was reminded of all the exciting, adventurous activities I had enjoyed and all those that were still on my to do list. But the movie also reminded me of road trips planned and forgotten! Walking out of the cinema hall I promised myself to reach out to all my friends, for there is no adventure in life without your friends...
